Nancy Thorp Poetry Contest
10th and 11th grade Girls: Submit entries online, Contest is through Hollins University. Deadline is November 15, 2013. See your English teacher or Mrs. Hanson for a flyer. First prize is $200.00, plus registration and transportation, and housing for the Lex Allen Literary Festival at Hollins in April.

The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program
"A Constitutional Speech Contest" Must demonstrate knowledge of the United States Constitution and its applications as well as oratorical skills. See Mrs. Hanson if interested. Contestants must give both a prepared oration and the assigned topic discourse in order to receive the scholarship.
Local contests are completed in January; State competitions in February and March.
Focusing on the Future
On February 1, 2014 the Center for Gifted Education at The College of William and Mary is offering its Focusing on the Future career conference for high-achieving middle and high school students. This event will allow students to become more familiar with career opportunities available to them through presentations centered on individual occupations. A number of knowledgeable professionals including college professors from the surrounding area will give the presentations. Flyer

Early College Program
The Early College Program is a unique and exciting partnership with Central Virginia Community College. Early College is a 2 - year program designed to allow selected juniors to earn an Advanced Studies high school diploma from their home school and an Associate of Arts and Science Degree in General Studies from CVCC at the same time. Students will attend the college courses at the Campbell County Technical Center in the morning and have option of returning to their home school in the afternoon to take elective courses and participate in extra-curricular activities.
