Campbell County implements the federally funded school-wide Title I Reading and Mathematics program in seven of its eligible elementary schools: Altavista, Brookneal, Concord, Leesville Road, Rustburg, Tomahawk and Yellow Branch. The Title 1 program provides additional academic support and learning opportunities to help children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in reading and math. Seventeen full- time, highly qualified reading teachers, one part- time, highly qualified reading teacher and one highly qualified math teacher collaborate and co- teach with regular classroom teachers and provide targeted interventions for students in defined, assessed areas. They also provide specific skill instruction through remediation sessions.
Through Title I funds, three literacy coaches and one part-time math coach provide ongoing prescriptive assistance to teachers. They help teachers to optimize student success with the implementation of individual and small group strategies as a result of student test analysis.
The Title I program sponsors “Parent Involvement” opportunities at both the school and district levels throughout the year. A strong connection between parents and the school is a key element for student success.
As a parent of a student enrolled at a Title 1 school, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of your child’s teachers and paraprofessionals. Federal law allows you to ask for the information and requires our district to provide you with this information in a timely manner.
