I am a 2011 graduate of Brookville High School.   Currently, I work for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in the accounting department in the Inventory section as an Inventory Analyst. I help maintain the Inventory Management System (IMS) statewide.  I graduated from Ferrum College in May 2015 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and from Liberty University in May 2016 with a Masters Degree in Accounting.  I am currently pursuing my accounting license, by taking the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.  After gaining more experience and having my license, I would like to use my knowledge to help others.  For example, completing people's taxes for free that are not so wealthy, or using my skills at church for people that need a better understanding or guidance about their financial situations. Those are some ideas, but wherever God leads me, I will gladly follow!

One of the most challenging subjects in school for me was English.   I truly had no motivation to sit still and read an entire book, especially after basketball or track practice, games, or meets! I would rather have read Sparknotes and used that to my advantage!  Although it was challenging for me, somehow I was in the advanced English class with Mrs. Thurman.  Everyone who had her as a teacher knew that reading only Sparknotes would not contribute to a passing grade.  Mrs. Thurman was the strictest teacher I had in high school, and now I appreciate that.  Having her as a teacher made me realize that not everything in life is simply handed out; there actually has to be effort put towards what a person wants and if a person wants to be lazy and not do anything, nobody is going to make them do anything differently. With that being said, her teaching style has played a huge role in my life. I know now that I have to set goals and have a plan to achieve them. I would not have been able to graduate college and I can not pass the CPA exam by just reading information on Sparknotes!
