I am feature Emily Hutcherson 2004 BHS Graduate
I graduated from Brookville High School in 2004 and went to James Madison University where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training in 2008.  After graduating from JMU I went on to Virginia Tech, where I earned a Master’s of Science in Education in 2010.  I am currently the head athletic trainer for Florida State University’s Women’s Basketball team, and am also an adjunct professor in our undergraduate athletic training education program.

While at BHS I had a wonderful Athletic Trainer (Brad Harper), who first sparked my interest in athletic training.  Through two years of course work at BHS in athletic training and working  as an athletic training student, I fell in love with the profession.
There was one pivotal experience I will always remember that solidified what I wanted to do.  In the fall of my junior year, a senior on the football team sustained a season-ending knee injury.  I was given the opportunity to help throughout his entire rehab process, and while he didn’t recover in enough time to play again, when he graduated, he thanked me and said how important I had been to his recovery. I knew then that this was a profession where I would be working with people through hard times in their lives, and I would be able to provide some assistance and relief. Having those early opportunities and experiences working with athletics in the high school setting were instrumental in my decision to pursue athletic training as a profession.
