ESL Program: English As a Second Language

The goal of Campbell County Schools 'programs for English as a Second Language is to provide research based instruction that advances students' skills to become fully proficient in English while meeting the same academic standards expected of all other students. ESL teachers and coaches work collaboratively with the students' regular classroom teachers to design instruction based on World Class Instructional Design (WIDA ©) English Language Development Standards (ELD) that addresses the student's strengths and needs. Campbell County Schools ascribes to the philosophy that can be taught without the use of bilingual teaching methods and / or teachers. Students identified as needing ESL services are placed for specific amounts of time in language instruction programs based on English language proficiency levels and grade.
