A Title I reading intervention program is implemented in all seven of our elementary schools:
- Altavista Elementary School
- Brookneal Elementary School
- Concord Elementary School
- Leesville Road Elementary School
- Rustburg Elementary School
- Tomahawk Elementary School
- Yellow Branch Elementary School
The Title 1 program provides:
Twelve full- time and one part-time, highly qualified reading teachers and two part-time support staff, collaborate and co- teach with regular classroom teachers to provide targeted interventions for students in defined, assessed areas. They also provide specific skill instruction through remediation sessions. Five literacy coaches and two math coaches are employed to provide ongoing professional support to teachers. Our coaches support teachers with implementing effective, small group instruction and using data effectively.
Title I funds are used to provide teachers with the resources needed to teach students to be thinkers and problem solvers. Each elementary school has a resource room with non-fiction and fiction leveled book sets, read aloud book collections as well as professional books.
Parent Involvement workshops are held
at both the school and district levels throughout
the year. We encourage you to take advantage of these worthwhile opportunities. We recognize a strong connection between the home and the school is a key element to our students’ success.
